Shrikhand Kailash
Climbing to the heights of Shrikhand Kailash – one of the most challenging religious Himalayan treks in India. The whole experience is like access to a stairway to heaven. It is a magical moment as one reaches the top. It enchants the devotee with divine waves of emotions. Thrills and chills move you inside out, also as one can feel the effusion scenic of mountains all around. Located at an altitude of 5595 meters / 18350 ft height, Shrikhand Mahadev Peak creates an aura of a Shivling. It is believed that Lord Shiva meditated at this peak and it was visited by Pandavas as well. The peak offers engrossing views of nature. The surrounding snow-covered peaks add to the natural charm of the place. The trek to Shrikhand Mahadev is a treat for adventurers, nature lovers, and spirituality seekers. At the top of Shrikhand Mahadev, there is a small shrine of Lord Shiva that is visited by the devotees to a great extent. July and August is the main pilgrimage season in which the devotees of Lord Shiva pay a visit to the peak of the mountain. Thus, Shrikhand Mahadev can be considered as a destination of great importance for both the Hindu devotees and trekking enthusiasts the same.
Legend behind Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra
Based on Hindu mythology, Bhasamasur meditated for several years. Lord Shiva got pleased and gave him bhasama kangan. Due to pride and ego, Bhasamasur tried to use the bhasama kangan (the invisible powder) on Lord Shiva , Mahadev vanished into a cave and later appeared on a hilltop that is presently known as the Shrikhand Mahadev Peak and the cave into which he had vanished is known as Devdhank and is situated near Nirmand.
Legend also reveals that the Pandavas had undertaken this pilgrimage. The Beautiful mountains of the Indian Himalayas are home to exotic flora and fauna. Note:
- Every Trekker has to carry his own backpack. If someone requires off-loading. Please ask while bookings. Off-loading charges extra, ₹900 per bag per day upto 7kg.
- Personal Porter also available on extra cost. Porter charges ₹1800 per day including his stay & food (if in advance).
